The patient became septic and suffered numerous organ failures, which included the kidneys that did not heal. Hemodialysis and later peritoneal dialysis became her new normal. Angelica had completed a half-year of dialysis, and one year half, was now ready for her biggest operation of all: the replacement of her kidney. The kidney that would be donated to her came from her mother. Angelica as well as her mother, went through an organ transplant successfully on September 13, 2013 at two fantastic hospitals close to one another - Emory University Hospital & Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston.
